Evening thunderstorms gave way to rainforest conditions here in Durham this morning. It's only April, yet by the end of the run I looked like I'd been underwater. Valerie was with me for most of the run on the bike on the ATT, which made the time go by nicely, before I added a loop-plus around East Campus.
The good news today is that the GRC turned in some stellar performances at Pikes Peek in Rockville and the National Duathlon Championships.
This caps of a fairly high-volume week for me with 101 miles and two 30+ mile bike rides. I'm off to Atlanta next week, and if I can find a race to jump in next weekend, then I will.
You might be wondering why I'm running high mileage right now. Here's why:
1.) With classes winding down, I have more free time, so I'm happy to take advantage of that.
2.) I love the feeling when running high volume, and I'd even argue that based on past performances, I race well running high volume. It's what seems to work for me.
3.) Compared to what I'm shooting for during my Chicago build-up this summer (125 miles/week), it's really not that much.
