I ran with the team from the store in Georgetown for an easy group run. We meandered through some Georgetown and Palisades neighborhoods before running down to the canal and Teddy Roosevelt Island, where we bumped into Pacers pal Dwyer. Klim and I finished up with strides on the canal.
Tomorrow's the Shamrock 5k in Baltimore. It's likely my last chance for a fast 5k for a while, so I'd like to get after this race. The competition is typically strong, and there's a little cash for the top 3. That would be nice. The beer afterward will be a bonus as well.
I actually feel like have both strength and speed (possibly, maybe...) right now, and that could make for a solid 5k. Judging from the last two weekends, and despite feeling sort of cruddy all week, I have no doubt I'm reached new levels of fitness.
No more rust-busters, pseudo-tempo runs or time trials...it's time just to f***ing race already. I'm chomping at the bit to see what I can do. A sub-15:00 5k is sort of a "lifetime goal" of mine. That may be a tall order for tomorrow, but I want to come as close as I possibly can if I don't sneak under it.
