AM: 10 miles easy
Got in an easy run while watching the GRC compete at the USATF preview XC race. The course reminds me a lot of the UVA course: rolling hills, farmland, and turning to slop in the rain. It looked brutal today, and I can't help but think that the conditions in February will be worse...not that it would necessarily be a bad thing. I just have some hills and strength work to do between now and then; that's for sure.

PR, I actually didn't think the course was that bad (granted I was running around like a d-bag and it was only 8k). The first K is actually quite fast. It's a harder course than the last couple of years I think, but I think the times will still be pretty quick.
What will be tough is the first lap. Typically there are about 150 people in the men's open race, which means racing to get some position early on. The good news is there is at least room to maneuver, so it's not the end of your race if you aren't out like a bolt.
As an aside, do you know Phil Hagedorn? He used to live with my roommate from Maryland, Mike Prada, and I'm told he went to your high school.
Crazy. Yeah, Phil and I did go to the same high school (Westminster), though I haven't talked to him in a while. I ran in high school with his sister, Caroline, though he and I never ran together (I started running as a sophomore, and he was a senior when I was a freshman).
We wrestled together for a year. I remember he was the defending state champion in his weight class, but he got a concussion in the qualifying tournament and wasn't able to defend it.
Man, it's a small world, especially since I know Prada also...
Anyway, I'm glad to hear the course wasn't that bad. I've heard mixed reviews from those who raced. Maybe the guys who didn't like it should have carried a baseball as well?
People that complain about things being hard shouldn't be allowed to do them. Cross country is supposed to be hard, and real runners would crave the opportunity to have to wear down other runners.
I'm sure we could talk at lengths about folks from Maryland, most of whom barely run anymore and definitely don't race much. I did talk to Laurel Jefferson at the meet though (now running for the evil Pacers).
Anyway looks to be your birthday today, so have a good one buddy!
