November 3

AM: 10 miles easy

PM: 30 min. yoga

The bonus I got today was from daylight savings this past weekend. Thanks to setting the clock back, I get to run in the daylight again in the morning, at least for the time being. This was my longest run since the marathon, and I feel great. I'm having to hold myself back right now.

I heard someone call this period of training the "patience period." I couldn't sum it up any better. I always seem to harvest big gains in fitness over the winter...it's sort of a comfort zone for me that lasts for a few months.

Yoga!

This evening, I tried yoga for the first time, albeit in the comfort of my own living room. There are a bunch of yoga "classes" available On Demand, so I did this with Valerie. Conclusion: I am not very limber. Namaste.

By coincidence, other GRC members also picked today to venture into yoga. They were a bit more aggressive than I was, jumping into a full 90-minute, "hot yoga" session. I'm taking baby steps by comparison, and I do like that I can just knock out a video session on my living room carpet. My plan now is to start with the bunny slopes, looking at a "beginners yoga" class this Sunday evening. That's probably more my speed for now.

Another thing, I also sweat perfusely. If I went to hot yoga, I would need to bring a mop with me. It reminds me of cutting weight in high school for wrestling. The coaches would turn up the heat in our practice room, and it was never an issue for me to lose water weight: I would lose an absurd amount of weight, anywhere from 5-10 lbs. As anyone who has run with me in the middle of the summer can tell you, if sweating were an Olympic event, I could be the next Michael Phelps.

Is this more information than you needed? Probably. But hey, it's my running blog.

There's an Election Tomorrow?

Also, go vote tomorrow. I could say the politically correct line, "Go vote...no matter who you vote for," but you all obviously know that's NOT what I genuinely think you should do. Therefore, I'll just subtly imply how I really feel.

So go vote, and make good decisions.

I am having a McCain/Palin victory party tonight...you are welcome to attend, if you like?

The McCain/Palin victory banners will end up with all of those children in third world countries wearing "Boston Red Sox: 2008 American League Champions" or "New England Patriots: 19-0" t-shirts and hats.

Maybe they can use those as blankets?
