AM: 10 miles moderate, 6 x 10" hill sprints

I ran some on Beach Drive this morning, which was closed for President's Day. On days like today, when commuters in their cars rev their engines past me on the road, only to find them turning around at gates blocking off the road a few yards away, I catch myself chuckling with schadenfreude.

Annnnnnd that's pretty wrong.

I had a second run planned, but a late meeting at work pretty much killed that idea.

Hey PR,

I often see in your blog: 6 x 10" hill sprints

Do you just do post-run strides up a hill and then jog back to the bottom? Please elaborate.

No problem...

The hill sprints are straight from Brad Hudson. This is something new I've been trying for the last few months instead of or in addition to normal strides after easy runs.

Basically, there is a steep hill where I finish a lot of my runs. I stop just near the top, and do all-out sprints with full recovery.

Supposedly, these are supposed to help form, speed, and power. From what I can tell so far, it's working...I really like them and they seem to be helping.

They definitely helped on the rollers on the USATF course a few weeks ago, whereas I normally would think that would have been a place where I'd struggle.

So you are sprinting from just below the crest of the hill up to where it flattens out? For like 50m?

That sounds about right. I just find a steep hill and sprint up for 10 seconds, walking back down with full recovery. I run to the crest of the hill, but I wouldn't think that you'd have to do that to get the benefits from the drill.
